On average, Bankruptcies and foreclosures remain on a credit report for seven to 10 years. Although this can remain on their longer depending on what the lender does. A Lender can choose to loan to a borrower at an earlier time if they have reestablished their credit. The circumstances of the bankruptcy most often influence a decision by a lender. If a borrower filed bankruptcy because of carelessness and living outside of their means, it is not likely that a lender will be willing to work with you. However, if you went through a bankruptcy due to an employer having financial troubles, (ie: decrease in pay, being let go, etc.) a lender may be more cooperative, and forgiving.
